Provided HR-related services for Houston-based clients, including recruiting, training, and SWOT analysis.  

The Dow Chemical Company, Houston, Texas 2014 - 2016
HR Manager
Supported seven groups in the Houston area including, Purchasing, Supply Chain, EH&S, Accounting, among others with a total of 130 staff members. Provided typical HR services as a Business Partner to the Group Leaders, including Performance Management, Employee Relations, Leadership Training and Development, and HR Consultation.

  • Led cultural change initiatives for the Dow Coatings Group, a global group with 1800 employees. Annual employee survey and leadership effectiveness survey indicated some serious concerns in the areas of Diversity and Inclusion. Reviewed the survey results with the Business Unit Leadership and recommended a virtual “town hall meeting” to discuss issues such as, lack of career advancement and career opportunities, favoritism, and general disengagement. The Town Hall meeting highlighted senior management’s commitment to resolving the issues and elevated their importance to all of the employees in the Business Unit.
  • Led the annual review and succession planning process for the Houston Dow Center and the Coating Group, totaling 2,000 employees in a forced ranking environment.  Worked closely with Senior Leadership and Department Managers to ensure consistent, reliable employee evaluations, and well-thought-out strategic employee development plans.
  • Led several employee engagement / employee satisfaction programs and events including, Career Development Week, Employee Recognition Week, Safety Awards Events and ”People Teams” to review HR analytics and drive change and progress.

EZCORP, Houston, Texas 2007 - 2014
Regional HR Business Partner
Provided HR field support to 60 store managers across the greater Houston metropolitan area employing more than 300 staff members. Conducted regular site visits to coach the manager on HR compliance issues and conduct hiring events and recruitment activities. Proactively conducted store visits to identify and resolve issues, and to promote and recognize positive performance.

  • Developed and led a strategic staff planning program for this typically high-turnover environment. Improved the effectiveness of hiring events by holding them more frequently. Training Store Managers on interviewing skills and selection techniques. Used social media to improve applicant quality and turnout. And conducted frequent store training in the regional office.
  • Improved employee retention rate.  Improved hiring and selection effectiveness.  Introduced formalized training program through the Harvard Manage mentor Program for all store managers and regional managers employees.  Developed and implemented an employee development / succession program to improve employee engagement.

Gloria Wise Boys & Girls Club, Bronx, New York 2001 - 2005
HR Director
Served as the startup HR Director for this community-based (38,000 residents), non-profit organization, with a broad-based program providing services to area youth, senior citizens and nursery school-aged children. Provided HR services to a staff of 75 and dozens of part time and volunteer employees, with an operating budget of $20MM.

  • Grew the HR function and implemented a professional organizational structure for this rapidly-growing grassroots organization.
  • Established a coherent recruitment and employee selection program.  Worked with the Department Heads and Executives to develop job descriptions, create staffing guidelines, and develop pay / salary structures, and trained hiring managers in interviewing skills.
